Zusammenfassungen

This book introduces wikis as information sources and tools for collaboration. The book begins with an overview of wikis, in the context of the increasing use of 'social software' in general and the trend towards a more interactive World Wide Web. The uses of wikis are introduced and the book includes examples of wikis in the fields of library and information science, education and business. The advantages and problems associated with using wikis in information work and collaboration are discussed. One of the problems is simply that of finding wikis that deal with a particular topic or activity, and this is addressed through reviews of directories, search engines and other finding tools. The final chapters cover the technical options for creating wikis and other issues associated with establishing and managing a wiki. The book concludes with a bibliography and list of resources.
